20 WOMEN REINVENTING MENOPAUSE

The Advocates Dr. Cindy Duke, Beth Battaglino, RN

Reproductive Endocrinologist & Founder, Nevada Fertility Institute; CEO, Healthy Women

Dr. Cindy Duke, Beth Battaglino, RN

We’re thankful for the women who are fighting to ensure that every woman’s voice is heard. And Cindy Duke, MD, PhD doesn’t take that responsibility lightly; throughout her entire medical career, she’s been a tireless advocate for empowering women to be the best versions of themselves. Not only is Dr. Duke America’s sole dual fertility expert and virologist, she also maintains an active and robust list of Black female doctors to help women access care from physicians of color, which can be critical to their experience and outcomes. Through her podcast, she highlights the work and dynamic career paths of women and girls around the globe.

Beth Battaglino, RN-C is a practicing clinician and CEO of HealthyWoman, an educational nonprofit connecting millions of women across the country through its wide program distribution and innovative use of technology. After partnering with WebMD on a survey to understand women’s outlook toward healthcare-related decisions, Beth and the HealthyWomen team uncovered that while over half of women (51%) acknowledged the concept of healthy aging and the need for proactive conversations with their healthcare providers, nearly half revealed they had not brought up any conversations. Furthermore, even fewer women reported discussing any menopause-related concerns with HCPs. A good start? Open the dialogue with providers that specialize in aging and midlife health, get regular screenings, and try not to get overwhelmed by all the changes taking place in your body.

Perhaps even more importantly, both of these fierce advocates want women to know they’re not alone. Remember to seek out community (including the one here at Elektra!), and talk to your family, friends, and medical professionals about the changes you’re experiencing.
